Nishikigoi NFT
Nishikigoi NFT is a "digital identity of Yamakoshi” (like an e-Residency), a rural village in Niigata Prefecture in Japan. Yamakoshi is known as the birthplace of Nishikigoi (colored carp), but it was also known as a marginalized village and community. With a rapidly declining and aging population and low birth rate, this village struggles to survive as they have only 800 residents. We decided to take on a new step where we go dive into web3 space to make a community where people gather to think about the future of Yamakoshi. Luckily, we now have over 1,000 Yamakoshi digital villagers living worldwide.
As we launched the first launch about a year and a half ago, we built the Yamakoshi DAO with the digital villagers together, and there are various internal projects ongoing.
Creating a New Community of "800+ 10,000”
This has been our goal since we started the project, and the most important thing of this project is "maximizing the number of people involved" and we plan to increase the number of digital villagers from approximately 1,000 to 10 times that number ultimately. Our mission is to help maintain and expand the possibilities of local communities and landscapes that support them through the participation of digital villagers when these small and diverse places are being swallowed by global capitalism and urbanization.
Connecting The World Through Local DAOs
We’ve been working on building a new form of community “Local DAOs (Crypto × Locals)“. It is at least true that this Local DAO framework, which was born out of Yamakoshi, has made a significant difference in the rapid depopulation of Yamakoshi by bringing people together to think about and work together to build the future of Yamakoshi.
But the fact is that the declining population won’t stop anytime soon in reality, and it is still difficult to say how much positive impact the Yamakoshi DAO will have on the survival of the village in the long run. Yet, we feel that the positive impact is not only on the village but on the digital villagers in general.
By gaining a digital villager as a new identity and a place to be, we all use a different thought process than we normally do, and we each contribute to the community adding a new aspect to each individual that has never been seen before.
Nishikigoi NFT has been a digital identity of the Yamakoshi Village, but now it will also be a pass to other Local DAOs that will be created around the world. That means that having the Nishikigoi NFT will not only give priority access to each Local DAO but will also increase the collaboration among Local DAOs. We believe that many holders will experience a diverse world through the Yamakoshi DAO.
Organizing Yamakoshi DAO
Yamakoshi DAO is also moving forward with further progress as Yamakoshi DAO Management Preparatory Committee has been formed by digital villagers, and we are having discussions in a daily basis about how we can become a role model in Japan for a sustainable management model.
Yamakoshi DAO is not under the control of any particular company, but is on its way to becoming a DAO that is fully self-governing, while building new structures for fund management, contracts, and other operations necessary to carry out its goals.
Since we started, we’ve been having lots of interactions with the real residents of Yamakoshi, and “Neo Yamakoshi“ is being established in real life.
New Artist With New Art
We’re so happy to introduce our art and welcome our artist “ykxotkx (yk)” as we’re minting soon. For those of you who don’t know, we already had a 1st and 2nd launch before, and Okazz was the 1st artist and raf was the 2nd artist. All of our arts are based on Nishikigoi, so this time again, yk has taken over the will and created such an amazing artwork.
The Future of Yamakoshi
It has been about a year and a half since the project was first launched, and we are very excited to be able to move into a new phase as Nishikigoi NFT / Yamakoshi DAO. In particular, we have been able to see the true integration of the real and digital worlds of Yamakoshi DAO in many situations, and we have seen such revolutionary changes that would have been unimaginable in the early days back in when we first started.
We are strongly hoping to make the third launch even more exciting with new people who will be our friends, the digital villagers who have been supporting us for a long time, and the real Yamakoshi residents who have been helping us from the day one.
