The News of the Week:
Myna Wallet in Yamakoshi
■ Myna Wallet in Yamakoshi
Today, I’d like to introduce an exciting initiative from Yamakoshi, Japan, to those living abroad: "Myna Wallet."
Yamakoshi is widely known for its Nishikigoi NFT project, but its ambitions really go beyond NFTs. The region is actively exploring how emerging technologies can contribute to local development, using Yamakoshi as a real-world testing ground for innovation. Myna Wallet is one such initiative, reflecting a uniquely Japanese approach to digital identity and community engagement. It’s a fascinating experiment that showcases how technology can redefine our relationship with local culture and economy.
WHAT IS MYNA WALLET?
Myna Wallet is a service that transforms Japan’s My Number Card into a secure and user-friendly digital asset wallet. It allows individuals to safely manage cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, NFTs, and digital IDs in an integrated and accessible way. By leveraging blockchain technology, Myna Wallet aims to simplify interactions with digital assets while ensuring compliance with Japan’s regulatory framework. This initiative represents a step toward mainstream adoption of Web3 technologies, making digital finance and identity management more practical for everyday users.
Last December, Yamakoshi hosted a year-end event where participants got to experience an exciting new feature of Myna Wallet—a system that lets visitors receive a timestamped NFT just by tapping their My Number Card. This feature, designed as a visit verification NFT issuance system, was tested in real-world conditions.
Now, the device is installed at Orataru, community center, in Yamakoshi. It issues a new NFT each day, with unique date stamps and rotating monthly landscape images of Yamakoshi—making each visit a collectible digital memory.
Once you've completed the initial registration, anyone with a My Number Card can simply tap it to receive a unique NFT each day. At this stage, the system is exclusively available to Japanese residents, but it made us wonder—how can we create a similar proof-of-visit experience for our international digital villagers? We’d love to explore ways to ensure that everyone, regardless of nationality, can take home a special digital token of their visit to Yamakoshi.
Joi Ito’s YouTube show Weekly gm recently announced the winners of the Weekly gm Award 2024, recognizing standout presenters. Huge congratulations to the Yamakoshi & My Number Wallet team for taking home the Best Presenter Award!
The My Number Wallet project is set to keep evolving this year, rolling out new features and strengthening its ties to the community. Meanwhile, Yamakoshi continues to push the boundaries of Web3, exploring fresh ways to merge digital and real-world experiences. Exciting things are on the horizon—stay tuned!
