800 Years of Tradition in the Digital Age: The Story of Shiiba Kagura

We’ve been spending a lot of time lately for Shiiba village, a quiet place tucked away in the mountains of Miyazaki Prefecture. It’s known as one of the few “hidden” regions left in Japan, where life still moves to the rhythm of nature.

One of the village’s most important treasures is Shiiba Kagura, a sacred dance that has been performed for over 800 years. It’s a beautiful expression of “living power”—the wisdom and gratitude of people who have lived in these mountains for centuries. We wanted to find a way to help this tradition thrive in the modern world, and that’s how the Shiiba Kagura NFT project began.

Capturing the “Vibe” of the Performace

For this collection, we collaborated with artist Hiroyuki Hori. To truly capture the energy of the performance, we didn’t just take photos. We used 8 cameras to 3D-scan the performers’ movements, turning the ancient “ma” (timing and space) into digital art.

The goal wasn’t to create something flashy, but to create something that feels real—a digital piece that carries the heartbeat of the village. By joining this project, you’re not just buying a piece of art; you’re becoming a part of the Shiiba community.

A Small Celebration of Our Roots

While we’re excited about Shiiba, we also took a moment recently to celebrate our journey in Yamakoshi.

We held a small “New Year Party” in Tokyo to mark the 5th anniversary of Nishikigoi NFT. It was really special to see everyone in person. People who started as just “icons” on Discord five years ago have become real-life friends. Seeing these connections continue to grow is what keeps us going. The warmth we’ve built in Yamakoshi is exactly what we hope to bring to Shiiba as well.
