The Village Without Borders: Growing our Local DAO from Yamakoshi to the World
When we first started the Nishikigoi NFT in Yamakoshi, it was a small step into the unknown. We asked ourselves: Can a digital token really save a physical village? Today, looking at our growing community, the answer is a clear “Yes.” But we’ve also realized that this mission is bigger than just one place.
We are building something new: a Local DAO. And this journey is now moving through three incredible regions: Yamakoshi, Tenryukyo, and Shiiba.
What is a “Local DAO”?
For us, a Local DAO is more than just technology. It is a way to connect people who love a place, no matter where they live.
In the past, only the people living in a village could help shape its future. If the population dropped, the village’s power dropped. But by using NFTs as a Digital Passport, we have opened the gates. Now, someone in Tokyo, New York, or London can become a “Digital Villager.” You bring new ideas, energy, and support. In return, the village gives you a place to belong—a second home.
Our Journey
Our Local DAO is growing, and each village adds a new layer to our story:
Yamakoshi (Niigata): Our roots. This is where we proved that “Digital Residency” works. The Nishikigoi (colored carp) became the symbol of a community that refuses to disappear.
Tenryukyo (Nagano): Our next chapter. Along the beautiful river cliffs, we are exploring how nature and art can bring people together. It’s a place to slow down and find balance.
Shiiba (Miyazaki): Our latest frontier. In this hidden mountain village, we are protecting 800-year-old sacred dances. Here, the DAO helps keep ancient wisdom alive for the next generation.
You are More Than a Member
Being part of a Local DAO means you have a voice. We don’t want you to just watch what we do; we want you to help us decide what to do next.
Should we fix an old house and turn it into a workspace? How can we help local farmers? Through our DAO, your vote and your ideas have real power in the physical world. We are bridging the gap between the digital screen and the forest soil. This is “Living Power” in action.
A True Homecoming
The most beautiful part of this project is seeing Digital Villagers actually visit. We’ve seen people arrive in Yamakoshi for the first time and say, “I’m home.” We want to create that same feeling in Tenryukyo and Shiiba. Whether you are holding your NFT in a busy city or a quiet room across the ocean, you are now part of a network of villages. You are helping us prove that as long as there is a community that cares, no village will ever be “hidden” or “lost” again.
The Path Ahead
We are just getting started. Our goal is to create a web of Local DAOs across Japan, where every digital resident can move between villages, share experiences, and protect the beauty of the countryside.
