â Where is Yamakoshi?
Yamakoshi is a small village in the mid-mountain region of Niigata Prefecture, and is now part of Nagaoka City after a municipal merger in the past. With heavy snowfall of up to 3 meters in winter, and a rugged geographical terrain with almost no flat grounds, Yamakoshi has lived with its tough natural environment. Yamakoshi faces not only tough natural environment, but also faced natural disasters. 19 years ago, the village was hit by the Chuetsu Earthquake in 2004 which completely destroyed the area that the entire village was evacuated, and the number of residents has dropped from approximately 2,200 at the time to less than 800 today.

â Nishikigoi NFT Project
Nishikigoi NFT is an NFT project of digital villagers identity. We started off in Yamakoshi Village, Niigata Prefecture, known as the home of Nishikigoi. There are about 1,700 Nishikigoi NFT holders (digital villagers), and the NFT is used as a place for support and interaction beyond the region.
